Bible Story: Esther Based on the Book of Esther

Parent and Family Background

The Book of Esther is a story in which good triumphs over evil. Haman is the archetypical villain. Not so typical, the central figure in the story, Esther, is a woman. The emphasis of this book, however, is on the plot rather than on character.

Esther

Based on the Book of Esther

Long ago, the armies of Babylonia attacked the Jewish people who lived in Judah. The army destroyed the Temple and the walls around the city. The Babylonian soldiers took over the country and the Jewish people were forced to move to other countries. Many Jews went to Persia. The Jewish people hoped and waited to return to Jerusalem.

During this time, a Jewish woman became the queen of Persia. Her name was Esther.

The king of Persia had a high-ranking official named Haman. Haman plotted to have all the Jewish people living in Persia killed.

When Esther heard about Haman’s plan, she prayed to God. Then she influenced the king and was able to save the Jewish people!
