Parent and Family Background
After his conversion, Saul preached about Jesus to Jews. Later he proclaimed the good news to the Gentiles.
Saul made three long journeys to preach about Jesus. These are called his missionary journeys. On his first journey, he began to use the Roman version of his name, Paul.
The Acts of the Apostles tells that the Gospel was preached from Jerusalem to Rome. Christianity began in Jerusalem, the center of the Jewish world. Tradition holds that Paul and Peter helped spread the good news of Jesus all the way to Rome.
Saul and Barnabas
Acts 9:26-28, 13:4-12
Even after Saul was baptized, the apostles were still afraid of him. They refused to accept him. But a man named Barnabas believed Saul. So, Barnabas brought Saul to the apostles and explained what had happened on the road to Damascus. After this, Saul was welcomed as a true follower of Jesus.
The Holy Spirit sent Saul and Barnabas to Cyprus. When they arrived, they preached the word of God in the Jewish synagogues. After they had traveled around the entire island, they met a magician. He was an intelligent man and wanted to hear the word of God. But the magician opposed Saul and Barnabas. He even tried to turn others away from faith.
But Saul, filled with the Holy Spirit, said, “You enemy of righteousness, stop making crooked the straight paths of the Lord. Now listen – you will be blind for a while.”
Immediately, the magician began to grope in darkness. He asked for someone to lead him. Those who saw believed what Saul and Barnabas taught about the Lord.
