Genesis is the first book of the Bible and the first book of the Old Testament. In the first eleven chapters, Genesis tells what the Hebrew people believed about how the world began and the origin of the human race.
In the story of Noah, God asks Noah to help him make the world new again. Noah was a good man who lived among people who acted in evil ways. God flooded the world in order to wipe evil off of the earth. After the flood, God makes a covenant with Noah. God promises to take care of all living creatures.
Noah
Genesis 6:9-22; 9:1-7
God said to Noah, "A great flood is coming. Make a huge ark. When the rain comes your family will go into the ark. Also, collect two animals of every kind, one male and one female. All these birds, beasts, and creeping things will go into the ark with you."
Noah did what God commanded. For forty days and forty nights heavy rains poured down on the earth. The world was covered with water for a long time.
Toward the end of the flood, Noah sent out three birds. A dove returned to the ark with an olive branch in its mouth. Noah knew that there was dry land. When Noah found dry land, his family and all the animals could leave the ark.
Then God set a rainbow in the sky. He said to Noah, "This rainbow is a sign my promise to you. For all time, I will care for you and all living creatures. Every time a rainbow appears in the sky it will remind you of my promise."
