Catechists & Teachers Project
The theme for Catholic Schools Week 2008, “Light the Way,” serves as a reminder of our primary objective as Catholic educators. We play an essential role in forming children not only to live as followers of Jesus Christ, but to “Light the Way” for others. Use the activity below to show how the children in your Catholic school “Light the Way.”
“Light the Way” Collage
- This project can be done as a class or it can include the entire school.
- Talk with the children about the many ways that they “Light the Way.” You might like to keep a list on the chalkboard for the children to refer to later.
- Explain that each person is going to contribute a picture of how they “Light the Way.” Then all the pictures will be combined to make a huge collage.
- Encourage the children to be creative with their individual pictures. They could draw, paint, use digital photographs or use a variety of art materials to bring life to their picture.
- Once everyone has completed their picture, be sure to provide an opportunity for each person to share their picture with the group and how they “Light the Way.”
- Then invite each person to attach their picture to a large piece of roller paper with the title “We Light the Way” at the top to create the collage.
- Display the collage in a prominent place in the school or at church for all to see.
