Catholic Schools Week is a huge celebration
because of the incredible scope of the Catholic School system in
the United States. It is one of the largest school systems in the
world—including over 8,000
Catholic schools. Its history goes back nearly 300 years—all
the way back to Colonial times.
The total enrollment in Catholic schools
is more than 3 million students. The number of teachers staffing
our Catholic schools is about 165,000. It is fascinating to point
out that many of the 8,000 Catholic schools are named after saints.
There is a special connection between the lives of the saints and
this year’s theme for Catholic Schools Week.
Saints are models of faith.
Click each set of dates on this timeline to find the exact name of
various Catholic schools in the U.S. that are named after a specific
saint. Besides learning the name of the school (for instance, it might
be St. Elizabeth Ann Seton School), you will learn the many contributions
that St. Elizabeth Ann Setoff has made to Catholic schools I the U.S.
and all over the world.
