Saint Elizabeth of Hungary
Feast Day: November 17
Mothers show their love for God each day. How?
They change the baby’s dirty diaper. They work hard. They feed their
children and laugh at their jokes!
Elizabeth was a good mother. She was born in 1207. In 1221, she married
Ludwig. They became the king and queen of Hungary.
They lived together in a castle with their three wonderful children. Elizabeth
loved her children and her husband. They played games together and went
on picnics. Her children and her husband made Elizabeth happy. So she
wanted everyone else to be happy too.
To do this, Elizabeth built a hospital by her castle. There she took care
of the sick. And every day she gave bread to hungry people. But then Ludwig
died.
The new king made Elizabeth leave the castle and her children. How sad
she was! She missed them so much. But soon she got to come home. Then,
when she was only twenty-three, Elizabeth died. The people in her kingdom
said, “A saint has died!” Elizabeth is a saint because she
knew how to show love.
