Martyrs of Vietnam: Andrew Dung Lac and One Hundred Sixteen Companions
Feast Day: December 21
Andrew Dung Lac was born and raised in Vietnam. He was educated in the faith and ordained a priest. He served in the Catholic missions in Vietnam until government persecution of Vietnamese Christians became rampant. Andrew was arrested with St. Peter Thi and they were imprisoned. While in prison, they were brutally tortured and abused. Andrew was beheaded on December 21, 1839.
The Vietnamese Martyrs include ninety-six Vietnamese, eleven Spanish, and ten French missionaries. Pope John Paul II canonized them all on June 19, 1988.
