Newly Arrived

newly arrived“Catholic social teaching proclaims that we are our brothers’ and sisters’ keepers…. We live in one human family, whatever our national, racial, ethnic, economic, and ideological differences. Learning to practice the virtue of solidarity means that ‘loving our neighbor’ has global dimensions in an interdependent world.” (Sharing Catholic Social Teaching, #5)

The most vulnerable in our society are often newly arrived immigrants. They do not know the language. They are unfamiliar with the culture. Many have no extended family support. Think about how you can extend the gift of hospitality and help newly arrived immigrants make a home in their new land.• Organize a bedding collection. Contact your diocesan office or Catholic Charities for organizations in need.

• Organize a coat collection or other clothing depending on your climate. Contact your diocesan office or Catholic Charities for organizations in need.

• Find out about resettlement agencies that assist immigrants and see what your group of youngsters might be able to do to assist their efforts.
