An Advent Wreath Prayer

Leader: Let us bow our heads and put ourselves in God’s presence as we begin our prayer, in the name of the Father…
(All extend hands over the Advent wreath in blessing)
God of all creation, be with us as we ask your blessing upon this Advent wreath and upon all of us gathered here.

All: Amen.

Leader: Blessed are you, Lord our God! You give us darkness and light. You give us hope in this time, and hope in the time to come.

All: Come, Lord Jesus.

Leader: (As the Advent wreath candle(s) is lighted)
May this light remind us of Jesus, who is the true light of the world.
Let us call upon him whose coming we prepare for and await.

All: Come, Lord Jesus!

Leader: May the Lord bless us and keep us, and may he let his light shine upon us.

All: Amen.

A Christmas Psalm (based on Psalm 96)

Leader: Our response today is: “Today is born a Savior who is Christ the Lord!”

All: Today is born a Savior who is Christ the Lord!

Leader: Sing a new song to our God.

All: Today is born a Savior who is Christ the Lord!

Leader: Sing to God all lands of the earth.
Proclaim God’s wonders to all people.

All: Today is born a Savior who is Christ the Lord!

Leader: Let the heavens be glad, let the earth rejoice.

All: Today is born a Savior who is Christ the Lord!
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit;
as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen.
