Bible Background
Jesus often taught people with parables. A parable is a story that teaches a lesson. These stories included examples from everyday life that offered clues that helped the listener understand what Jesus was teaching. Jesus tells this parable to help people understand the kingdom of God. The Weeds Among the Wheat Jesus told them this parable: The kingdom of heaven is like this. A man sowed good seed in a field. That night when everyone was asleep, an enemy sowed weeds among the wheat. When the plants grew up, both weeds and wheat appeared. One of the slaves asked his master, “Didn’t you sow good seed? Where did these weeds come from?” The man answered, “An enemy has done this.” The man thought about what to do. He told the slaves, “Let both the weeds and wheat grow together until harvest. When the wheat is ready, gather the weeds first. Put them into bundles and burn them. Then collect the wheat and put it in the barn.” |
