On January 9, 2012, the Church celebrates the baptism of Jesus. Below are some activities you can use with children to help them understand Jesus’ baptism as well as appreciate their own baptism.
Read the stories of Jesus’ baptism in scripture. Look at all three accounts: Matthew 3:13-17, Mark 1:9-11, and Luke 3:21-22.
Invite the children to bring in mementos of their own baptisms. They could bring in pictures, candles, garments, or other items. Invite each child to share a little about their baptism as they show their treasures.
Pray together:
Loving God, through baptism we have become your children.
Send us your Sprit to help us live as followers of your Son, Jesus Christ.
Help us to always remember that we are all baptized members of your family.
We ask you blessing upon us, just as we were blessed at our baptism,
in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
